Adult Sunday School meets on most Sunday mornings from early September to the middle of May.  It follows the same schedule as the CFP.  It meets between the two Sunday morning Masses—from 9:40 to 10:40 AM.  This year (’02-’03) two options are available:

(1)   A study of the Acts of the Apostles in Meeting Room C.  Don Wade and Dale Dirkschneider lead this survey  of the life, events and actions of the Spirit in the early church.

(2)   A discussion of Catholic Social Teaching using the Book Option  for the Poor by Donal Dorr.  In this book Dorr summarizes the content and context of Papal statements from Leo XIII (1878) to John Paul II.  The questions at the end of each chapter are used to spur the discussion.

RENEW is a world wide program that began in New Jersey. It has been adopted by the Archdiocese of OKC and is to take place in all parishes.  It is a three year program Renew’s central focus is faith sharing in small groups.  Each group meets for a six week season twice each year.  The first season began in October of 2002.  The second season will be during lent of 2003.  These sessions will provide time for reflection and sharing, for mutual support, for prayer, for action, for learning and for celebration.  It is a marvelous time for gathering in small communities of Christians around the Word of God, to search together and support on another.  We need one another to celebrate the ways God is active in our lives and in our world.  All we need do is to accept and live God’s great love.  For more information and to sign up in a group click here.

Just Faith is an intense study of Catholic Social Teaching.  It involves weekly discussion sessions, two week end retreats, and hands on experiences with social action. It is a nine month commitment, each group includes about 17 people.  St. Charles will sponsor one program each year.  Contact Margaret Phipps for more information.

Book Club meets every Thursday afternoon from 1:30 to 3:00 PM in the Kastner Room.  The group selects a book to read and discuss chapter by chapter.  The group is currently discussing The Four Gospels and the Jesus Tradition by John O’Grady.

Sacramental Preparation

 Baptism

POLICIES, GUIDELINES AND PROCEDURES FOR THE BAPTISM OF INFANTS AND YOUNG CHILDREN:

1. Normally the children of parents who are registered members of St. Charles are baptized at St. Charles.

2. Normally parents are to attend a baptismal seminar prior to the scheduling of their child’s baptism.

3. Normally baptisms occur during the celebration of the Eucharist.

4. Parents are encouraged to provide a white, family baptismal garment for use in the rite.

5. If  the baptism does not occur during Eucharist, the second level of normal times for baptism are: after the 5:00 PM Mass on Saturday evening or after the 11:00 AM Mass on Sunday morning.  Baptisms can be scheduled at other times if reason dictates.

6. Both priests and deacons are the normal ministers of Baptism.

7. One schedules a baptism by completing the appropriate form at the Baptism Seminar, in the parish office or by phone.

A) Those forms are kept on the parish secretary’s desk until the date for the baptism arrives.  Any changes can be called in to her.

B) Parents should call the office a couple of days before their scheduled baptism to confirm their plans.  Usually, that means calling on Friday before the week end baptism.   The Parish number is 789-2595.

C) Parents should arrive for the Baptism at least 15 minutes before Mass is to begin.  They should make their presence known before  Mass begins by talking to an usher, priest or deacon. If the baptism is to take place at Mass the family should be seated in the front pews.  If the baptism is after Mass they should still make their presence known before Mass.

8. All exceptions to the normal process of baptism should be discussed with one of the parish priests or the Director of Religious Education.

FIRST CONFESSION AND FIRST COMMUNION
The second grade is the normal time for the preparation for and celebration of the sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist.  Following is a schedule for those events for ‘02-’03:
