for Legislative Advocacy Coalition (LAC)
Ministry Description / Roles and Responsibilities
Purpose: to advocate for the poor and work towards social change in systems.
Commitment to the Legislative Advocacy Coalition (LAC) at St. Charles is estimated to require a total of 30 hours of your time between January and July and will include the following opportunities:
Attending an orientation in January of each year from 12:15 pm until 4:30 pm beginning with lunch in Beckman Hall.
Responding to six action alerts between January and July. Typically, each action alert will require the writing of two letters or the making of two phone calls to policy makers. You will be provided with background information and any supporting information you need to complete these actions.
Reporting completion of your action to the LAC Core Team by contacting by phone or e-mail after you have completed the action. This allows us to track the number of actions taken and to report this back to the LAC Core Team and the organizations that provide the action alerts. Reporting will also be available via the parish web site at www.stcharlesokc.org/lac.html We also offer a mail-in post card as a way to report completion of your action. Please let us know if you need to use this option.
Attending two optional gatherings with the LAC group to learn more about policy issues or our work as advocates. These gatherings will be scheduled for March and June.
Completing a written evaluation on the Legislative Advocacy Coalition and returning this to the LAC Core Group.
If you are interested in joining the LAC as ad advocate member, or if you have questions, please contact Margaret Phipps.
