Baptism

The Sacrament of Baptism may be celebrated after one of our weekend Masses or during the Mass itself.   Baptism is celebrated above all at the Easter Vigil, but also on other Sundays, for Sunday is the Lord's day, the day when the church gathers to proclaim the paschal mystery.  Although baptism may take place outside of the Sunday Mass, it is always to be celebrated in an assembly of members of the church.

Children are baptized in the faith of the church: of parents, godparents, the local parish, the church throughout the world, the saints.  Bringing their children for baptism, the parents profess their commitment to make a home where the gospel is lived.  The godparents and all members of the community promise to support the parents in this.  Thus the children enter the waters of baptism and so are joined to this people, all baptized into the death and resurrection of Christ.

For information on the Baptism Seminar and to schedule the Baptism of your child, please contact Vince Brady.

Reconciliation

The second grade is the normal time for the preparation for and celebration of the sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist.  The sacrament of Reconciliation stands out in the Church's life and in its celebration of the liturgy as the faithful confess their sinfulness and ask for pardon from God and from their brothers and sisters in many ways: in services of penance, in the proclamation of the Word of God, in prayers of petition and in the penitential elements of the Eucharistic celebration.  The sacrament of Reconciliation may be celebrated with one penitent or with many.

The sacrament of reconciliation is celebrated at Saint Charles on Saturday afternoon from 3:00 to 4:00, and by appointment.

Communion

The second grade is the normal time for the preparation for and celebration of the sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist.  Communion is offered at every mass to current members of the Catholic Church.  Communion calls are made regularly to the ill and homebound.  If you, a family member or someone else is ill or unable to attend church for any significant length of time, or wishes to be visited please contact Deacon Marc LeWand.

Confirmation

The Confirmation  program consists of a two year process where candidates meet bi-monthly from September to May on Sunday afternoons (2:00-3:30) in order to prepare themselves to receive the sacrament of Confirmation. These sessions consist of material taken from the Catechism and based on the different areas of Creed, Morality, Prayer, and the Sacraments.  Candidates must attend all classes, youth group, must perform service in the community, and must be sixteen at the time of Confirmation in order to participate and receive the sacrament.  For more information about Confirmation or other Youth functions, please contact the Youth Director.

Matrimony

Each of the sacraments is unique in its own way, but the sacrament of Marriage is the one sacrament where the Priest is the witness to the sacrament and the bride and groom actually perform the sacrament.  The marriage rite itself is the covenant made by the bride and groom, the consent each gives to and accepts from each other.  The church assembles to witness and bless this union.  Many rituals of various kinds and origins surround a wedding.  These rites of preparation and of celebration are ways for the couple, the families and friends to share in and to strengthen the making of a marriage.

Those wishing to be married must contact the parish office at least four months prior to the proposed date of marriage
in order to fulfill Archdiocese and parish requirements.  The parish has a wedding coordinator to assist in the planning
of the service and to assist in keeping within the acceptable boundaries of the Catholic Church

Anointing of the Sick

The sacrament of Anointing is celebrated when a Christian's health is seriously impaired by sickness or old age.  Through the anointing with the blessed oil of the sick, the church supports those who struggle against illness or injury and continues the healing work of Christ.  The anointing is intended to bring hope and comfort to the one anointed and, to the gathered family and friends, a spirit of support and sharing in the sufferings of our brothers and sisters.

The sacraments of Eucharist and Anointing of the Sick are available to those who are ill, in the hospital or homebound.  Please contact the parish office and let us know of your need.  One of our lay ministers or a priest will be glad to visit you and offer you the sacraments.

Last Rites

Death is inevitable, both for us and for those of our family.  As Christians we know that death is no the end, and we rest secure in the knowledge that God is going to continue watching over us forever.  It is not something that we avoid discussing or even dread happening.  In some ways we even look forward to it and rejoice at the privilege granted those who have gone before us.  One day we will share that privilege.

For a family member who you feel may need the Last Rites administered, or for questions about funeral planning at Saint Charles, please contact the parish office.
